In the pursuit of attractiveness, one feature that is important to many patients is the shape and size of the buttocks. Ideally, the buttocks should be proportionate to breast size.
However, due to various cultural and social influences today, some patients are seeking a larger size of the buttocks. Read on as Dr. Berger explains the benefits of a Brazilian Butt Lift.
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
In order to get an ideal buttock shape, we must understand how we can achieve this. The most popular, and probably most effective approach is the Brazilian Butt Lift. A Brazilian Butt Lift is simply a fat transfer into the buttocks. This can be done by either transferring the fat into the muscles of the buttock, and/or transferring it into the fat that is above and around the muscles of the buttock, in order to contour that ideal shape. The fat is removed or harvested using advanced liposuction techniques.
This procedure requires methods that preserve the viability of the fat for long-term survival. Then, after the fat is purified, it is enriched using biologic materials such as the patient’s own growth factors derived from platelet-rich plasma, which we process from the patient’s blood during the same procedure. Or, in some cases, the addition of regenerative cells, including stem cells taken from some fat, which are also removed during the procedure and then added back into the fat that will be transferred into the buttocks.
Other options for patients that want to enhance their buttocks might include thread lifting of the buttocks. This is usually done in conjunction with a Brazilian Butt Lift, though can be a standalone procedure in patients who don’t have adequate amounts of fat to transfer into the buttocks. Another alternative is an implant into the buttocks, which is a much more involved and invasive surgical procedure.
