Did you know that Dr. Berger can take fat from places you don’t want it and put it into places you do, such as your breasts, the back of your hands, your lips, and your bottom?
Did you know that he can even freeze your fat, so you can use it in the future instead of dermal fillers?
It’s all true, and it’s done without general anesthesia, major surgery, prolonged recovery or extreme discomfort.
What is Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer, also called fat grafting, is a procedure that uses your own fat to plump areas on the body in which you’d like more volume. The benefits of fat transfer are numerous: because it uses your own fat, you’ll “lose” fat from an area in which you don’t want it via liposuction; you won’t risk an allergic reaction; you’ll never worry about rupture or capsular contracture of breast implants when your own fat is used to plump your breasts; it’s permanent.
What Areas Can Be Treated with Fat Transfer?
For facial rejuvenation at our Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgery practice, Dr. Berger can add volume to lift the cheek and jowls, raise the eyebrows to a more youthful position, and add volume to the temples and lips. Scars and other skin depressions can also be filled with fat, as a permanent method of correction.
Our Beverly Hills breast augmentation patients are thrilled to learn they can enlarge their breasts by one or two cup sizes through fat transfer instead of artificial breast implants. The procedure is much less invasive, less painful and has a faster recovery than insertion of breast implants. Because breast implants are not lifetime devices, but fat is, your natural breast augmentation procedure is both a time- and money-saver!
As we age, the skin on the back of the hands can become thin, revealing veins and tendons. Injecting fat to plump the hands is a beautiful way to “match” your youthful face to your hands, which are otherwise a tell-tale sign of aging.
For patients seeking buttock augmentation, both extra volume and added firmness can be achieved through fat transfer, giving you a bottom you’ll love in slacks, dresses and skirts. Dr. Berger’s Brazilian Butt Lift procedure does not require general anesthesia and, because your own fat is used, artificial implants aren’t needed!
Stem Cells and Fat Transfer
The fat in your body has its own supply of stem cells. When fat is extracted via liposuction to use in a fat transfer procedure, Dr. Berger utilizes a special method to retain the highest number of stem cells possible. These stem cells are then transferred with the fat, which increases the effectiveness of the transfer.
How is Fat Transfer Performed?
Under local anesthesia, Dr. Berger will make minute incisions into the donor site(s), such as the abdomen, love handles, thighs and/or buttocks. He inserts a very small cannula into each incision, which removes the fat via liposuction. Once an adequate volume of fat has been removed, it is processed to retain the largest number of high quality fat cells to ensure that the majority of the fat “takes” once transplanted. Fat is then injected into the treatment areas. Steri-strips are applied to the small liposuction incisions and the patient goes home the same day. Depending upon the amount of fat removed, some Beverly Hills liposuction and fat transfer patients take a couple days from work and social activities. Otherwise, recovery is fairly uneventful, and results are visible immediately. Patients may have some slight bruising and swelling in the donor areas, but these resolve quickly.
Dr. Andre Berger is a recognized expert in the area of fat transfer and stem cell technologies. He was one of the first cosmetic surgeons in the Los Angeles area to offer fat transfer and has taught his methods to other surgeons around the globe.
