In addition to the face, the neck is one of the first places to show the signs of aging. Many of the same symptoms that we can see on our face can be seen on our neck. One of the most common concerns that patients have about their necks, is the appearance of the bands that form around the neck due to the platysmal bands. If you’re not quite ready to commit to surgery, Botox can be used to relax these muscles, and therefore soften the appearance of these “bands”.
Botox is an injectable neurotoxin that is used for both medical and cosmetic purposes. Botox works a signal blocker to muscle movement, which by not allowing constant contracting can soften the look of lines and bands that appear due to the movement of the platysmal bands.
After consulting with Dr. Berger, he will first mark the areas that you would like to treat. Then he will inject a specific number of units into the muscles. The Botox can take up to two weeks to take effect and on average will last an average of 4 months.
If you have the following concerns about your neck, you may be a good candidate for the procedure:
After treatment, you will most likely experience some sort of redness or a slightly raised bump at the injection sites. However, this should subside within a couple of hours. After the Botox has taken effect, the surface of your neck will be noticeably smoother from the muscles relaxing and not making the same movement and contractions that originally created the banding around the neck.
