Kylie Jenner’s plump, full lips have long been the subject of discussion. When she discussed using dermal fillers on an episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” back in May, interest in non-surgical lip augmentation rose.
Maycie Thornton and Ella Mielniczenko were two of the people who drew inspiration from Kylie’s look. Unhappy with the appearance of their lips, these two BuzzFeed staff members visited Rejuvalife in Beverly Hills to find out how fillers could help. They also filmed and wrote about their experience with Dr. Berger.
Here’s a look at the treatment process (video courtesy of BuzzFeed), as well as three takeaways for patients who are considering fillers or other cosmetic services:
It’s not unusual for patients to visit Dr. Berger asking how they can look like a certain celebrity. The consultation is an opportunity not only to learn about treatment options but also what to expect from treatment.
For example, you can see in the video above that Maycie was surprised to learn that treatment with fillers would result in a change to the angles on the sides of her mouth.
Another reason the consultation is so important: It’s an opportunity to calm the fears patients might have about treatment. Knowledge is power, and the first meeting is your chance to learn about what’s involved with treatment, as well as the experience of the person who may be performing it.
Knowing what will happen during and that you’re in good hands should alleviate some of the stress associated with cosmetic procedures, although jitters on the day of the appointment are not uncommon.
When they returned to our center three days later, both Ella and Maycie received injections of Juvederm® in multiple areas of their lips. Maycie also received treatment with Restylane® in order to provide additional definition to the Cupid’s bow and the area between the nose and the middle of the top lip.
Both patients wanted to achieve roughly the same results, but Dr. Berger recommended two different treatment methodologies. This illustrates the importance of customizing treatment for the patient’s needs.
No two patients are exactly alike, and the treatment that might work best for one person, famous or otherwise, might be insufficient for another. Cosmetic surgeons like Dr. Berger spend years treating a variety of different patients and exploring what works best in specific cases. They can help you identify the best treatment option, even if it’s one you weren’t expecting.
At the end of the BuzzFeed article, both Maycie and Ella agree that cosmetic surgery is a very personal choice. Perhaps the most important takeaway for these two patients and others considering cosmetic rejuvenation is that the motivation for enhancement should come from within.
Though it’s easy to be influenced by stories and photos of celebrities, you are the only one who can identify the changes you would like to make to your appearance. And the more personal your goals are, the better your cosmetic surgeon will be able to recommend appropriate treatments.
