The state of “something is wrong” sends a message to the body, that says “I can’t rest until I resolve this situation or issue.” Unfortunately, there are many daily activities which cause the body to enter this state. From obvious stressors such as deadlines to financial pressures. They can also be more subtle as in, “the house is a mess”, having a laundry list of errands to complete before guests arrive, or coping with a cell phone call that repeatedly loses signal.
The body’s response to short term “something is wrong” stress is to return the body to the balanced state of homeostasis. However, when stress continues unabated the body can no longer maintain its balanced healthy state. An unbalanced internal environment eventually leads to a host of problems caused by cellular and system dysfunction. Immune and digestive systems suffer. Skin loses collagen and elastin. Aches and pains develop, insomnia can occur and even memory is affected.
