Often, people become very frustrated when trying to get rid of that unsightly cellulite with its bumpy, cottage cheese appearance. Many people think that cellulite is a fat problem and can be eliminated through more exercise and diet. In actuality, cellulite is caused by structural problems that occur below the skin.
Aging, hormones, genetics and extreme amounts of weight loss can lead to the appearance of cellulite. Any of these factors can make the connective tissue bands under the skin to stiffen. Additionally, the surrounding fat cells become larger and push up into the skin to create that “cottage cheese” look.
The Cynosure Cellulaze procedure treats these cellulite-causing structural problems. This treatment treats those fibrous, connective bands, along with thickening and adding elasticity to the skin.
The Cellulaze Procedure
This minimally invasive procedure will use a local anesthesia. After the treatment area is anesthetized, a couple of tiny incisions are made through which small cannulas are inserted. The Cellulaze laser fiber, known as the SideLaze3D, is inserted through the cannulas. The fiber then emits energy to target the fat pocket bulges to smooth and level out the bumps.
The laser fiber is moved around the treatment area to thermally loosen the fibrous bands that are pulling the skin. The energy that is delivered to the treatment site will also thicken the skin, as well as increase skin elasticity by stimulating collagen production.
The final step of the procedure entails having the excess, liquefied fat gently excised from the area. The entire procedure takes about two hours to complete and multiple areas can be treated during a single visit.
After the Procedure
After the procedure is completed, patients will need to wear compression garments to help the healing processes. There may be some associated discomfort and minor bruising. Most patients are able to return to their normal schedules within a couple of days, and can return to more strenuous exercise and activities in a week or two.
Treatments using Cellulaze have been shown to increase the thickness of the skin by 25%. Skin elasticity is improved by approximately 29%. Both of these improvements are very integral to improving or eliminating the look of cellulite. Additionally, the results of this treatment will continue to improve over the next 12 months.
