Currently, we are seeing a rise in the number of people undergoing buttock augmentation procedures, also known as Brazilian butt lifts. Why? The days of achieving an ultra-skinny figure has been replaced with the desire to have a fuller, more curvaceous look. This may be due to the popularity of celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, and Kim Kardashian who are well known for their curvy figures.
Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicate that there was a 16% increase in the number of butt augmentation procedures performed from 2012 to 2013. In 2012, there were approximately 8,500 procedures done, while in 2013, that number reached 10,000. In other statistics, 30% of cosmetic surgeons indicated that they were doing butt lifts in 2013, compared to 19% in 2012.
Many people think that the Brazilian butt lift procedure is just about increasing the size of the buttocks. However, it actually provides a more youthful, contoured and perky look.
There are two different procedures to enhance the buttock area — butt lifts and butt implants. The main difference between the two techniques is the material used to increase the size and lift of the buttocks.
The Brazilian butt lift actually uses a patient’s own fat that is transferred from another part of the body to the buttocks. Butt implants use silicon implants.
Butt implants are usually used for patients who do not have adequate body fat in other areas to allow liposuction and reinjection of their own fat stores. The Brazilian butt lift is considered to provide a more natural look because of the pliability of the natural fat.
During a Brazilian butt lift, liposuction is performed on the areas around the butt to give it more definition. Then liposuction is done on other areas to gather fat tissues for reinjection into the butt. Because of the liposuction procedure, the patient will actually benefit from a Brazilian butt lift in two ways. They will lose inches in the area that the fat was harvested, as well as the more curvaceous and lifted butt.
