shutterstock_142862212There are many alternatives today other than invasive surgery for patients who desire some cosmetic facial enhancement to improve their look. For the most part, some features need to be addressed when considering what type of alternative treatment is best for a patient. Most patients, whether they’re male or female, desire a natural-looking cosmetic enhancement that improves or optimizes their attractiveness. Read on to learn about these non-surgical facelift options, as explained by Dr. Berger.

Evaluation

To determine which technique should be used, we need to evaluate what the actual problems are. For the most part, aging does cause very predictable changes that need to be addressed. Sometimes, that’s also modified by the inherent anatomy of the patient that may require some subtle augmentation or adjustment to achieve a more naturally beautiful appearance.

For example, the things that are very common and predictable in regards to aging are a loss of volume, thinning of the skin, loss of elasticity, sagging, loss of the underlying fat, loss of some muscle volume, and reabsorption of bone. All of those are progressive as we move from our 30s and 40s to our 50s and 60s. Many factors can lead to these symptoms, including natural aging, environment effects such as exposure to ultraviolet light, the sun, exposure to sun damage, smoking cigarettes, stress, weight changes, or chronic illness. All of those things will affect the appearance, and all need to be taken into consideration to select the process.

Non-surgical Treatment Options

Once the patient is evaluated, we can then remedy the situation based on all of the mentioned factors. If the situation is volume loss, the volume can be replaced using either dermal fillers or fat transfer. If the problem is a loss of elasticity, then volume enhancement can improve that. Some collagen-stimulating treatments including Sculptra or the addition of thread-lifting sutures such as the Silhouette Instalift or NovaThreads are also an option to reposition some of the sagging, lax skin, add the appearance of enhanced volume and also to stimulate collagen to strengthen and rejuvenate the skin. Other excellent treatment options are Precision Tx to sculpt and tighten the lower face and neck, Ultherapy to lift and tighten, and Microneedling with PRP, peptides and growth factors for collagen stimulation and skin rejuvenation.

Neuromodulators

Furthermore, neuromodulators, such as Botox, can be used to eliminate dynamic wrinkles and lines. These are the lines caused by muscle contraction. Fillers and threads can be used to reduce non-dynamic lines, or static lines and wrinkles caused by thinning of the skin, loss of elasticity and volume. All of these issues can also be enhanced by improving the texture and skin tone, reducing pore size, and bringing back activity to the skin.

Laser Treatments

Lasers are used to treat uneven skin tone and vascular pigments as well. High intensity focused ultrasound can also be used to lift and tighten facial laxity, including the neck. In any case, the combination of these treatments can be an extremely useful way of providing subliminal optimization where the patient looks refreshed and rejuvenated, without resorting to a surgical procedure that may be more invasive and complicated.
