Your Ultimate Guide to Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are one of the best facial rejuvenation treatments out there. Their minimally invasive nature, no need for downtime and long-lasting results make them a fan-favorite among our patients. But, with so many different types of dermal fillers on the market, it’s hard to tell each apart and know which is best for you. Let’s go over each type of dermal filler offered by Dr. Berger and his staff so you can get a better feel for what you need to rejuvenate your appearance.
Juvederm® and Volbella®
Juvederm® products are some of the most popular dermal fillers you’ll research. This filler is made from a hyaluronic acid-based gel and fills in unwanted fine lines and wrinkles around the lower two-thirds of the face. Hyaluronic acid gels are most popular because they are made from the naturally-occurring sugars in the body that bond to water to plump up the skin and restore a youthful appearance. Juvederm® also has a special formula, Volbella®, which is perfect for adding volume to naturally thin lips.
Restylane® and Restylane® Products
Restylane® is another hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler gel that is also very well-known in the beauty industry. Like Juvederm®, Restylane® products are great for filling in unwanted fine lines and wrinkles around the lower two-thirds of the face, and pumping up the volume in areas of the face that have sunken or thinned with age. Restylane® also has its own lip filling gel, Restylane® Silk, which has a slightly thinner consistency to create a naturally-fuller appearance to thin lips.
Belotero® is the last of our hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. While a little less well-known by patients, Belotero® does just as well of a job at rejuvenating facial features and supplementing lost volume in the face as its counterparts. That being said, this all-in-one formulation does not require the use of sister products to do the job. Belotero® is your one-hit-wonder for frown lines, smile lines, thinning facial features, sunken facial features, crow’s feet, hand rejuvenation and more.
Bellafill® is a unique dermal filler that is made up of a collagen microsphere material that doesn’t get absorbed by the body the way that traditional hyaluronic acid dermal fillers do. This means your FDA-approved wrinkle filler will provide more support to the skin than a traditional dermal filler and last longer in the skin than its competitors. In fact, while most hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers only last in the skin for about nine to 12 months at a time, Bellafill® is the only dermal filler that can produce beautiful results that last up to five years following treatment.
Radiesse® is another unique dermal filler that is made of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) gel microspheres. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, you may not see the results of your Radiesse® treatments immediately following your appointment. Instead, the CaHA gel takes time to activate in your system to boost collagen production and reverse your unwanted signs of aging. Because this filler works to keep boosting collagen levels in your system after injection, results can last for up to two years following treatment.
Sculptra® is a dermal filler that is made from poly-L-lactic acid, another collagen-producing agent that takes time to take effect in the body. Like Radiesse®, it’s likely you won’t see the results of your Sculptra® treatment right away, however, the results you get from Sculptra® are long-lasting and keep improving over time. Sculptra®, while popularly used to reverse signs of aging in the face, is also widely used to lift and augment the buttocks.
Renuva® is an injectable dermal filler treatment that closely mimics the results of body fat transfer or nano fat transfer to the face without having to undergo liposuction and get donor fat from the body. Instead, Renuva® is made from a material that closely resembles fatty tissue structure in the body to promote fat generation in the treated areas. Like Bellafill®, Renuva® treatments are some of the longest-lasting dermal fillers with results having the potential to last up to five years at a time.
