Liposuction Body Sculpting FAQs

Q. What kind of Liposuction is performed at Rejuvalife?

A. Liposuction at Rejuvalife is a more refined, advanced form of traditional liposuction incorporating (one of or a combination of) Smartlipo™ Laser Lipo, BodyJet Liposuction, Vaser Lipo, Power Assisted Lipo and Liposulpture using tumescent anesthesia that removes fat without general anesthesia or IV sedation. This means that patients are awake and are in a comfortable state. Awake liposuction is less aggressive, less risky, and offers patients a much easier recovery with better cosmetic results. Special instruments that are smaller and more refined are used to break down and gently suction out the fat from the areas to be improved. During the procedure the patient is under local anesthesia and awake feeling virtually no pain, as an oral sedative is given to enhance patient comfort.

Q. Why do people want liposuction?

A. There are a variety of reasons why an individual would choose to undergo liposuction. Most often, a patient has unwanted deposits of fat that will not go away in spite of exercise and dieting. Liposuction helps to improve appearance, confidence and self-esteem, and aesthetic body proportions. In some cases, people use liposuction to “kick start” a lifestyle modification program that includes a better diet and an exercise program. Liposuction has also been shown to eliminate Lipedema fat cells and keep them from returning.

Q. How much fat can be removed with liposuction?

A. Some patients require that fat be removed from many areas of their bodies. This is definitely an option. However, Dr. Berger’s priority is safety and, as such, he has never ever had a patient experience a serious complication. He is careful, cautious, and realistic in determining an appropriate candidate for the advanced liposuction procedure and the maximum number of areas that can be safely treated during any single procedure.

The amount of fat removed from each patient varies and depends on what is best for your body. The goal of liposuction at Rejuvalife is not to remove as much fat as possible but rather to sculpt your body for a balanced, aesthetically pleasing result that makes you look as dramatic as possible while leaving you looking natural and smooth.

Q. What Does a Non-Invasive or Non-Surgical Liposuction or Awake Liposuction mean?

A. A non-invasive or non-surgical procedure does not require general anesthesia or IV sedation because the body is not cut open or invaded in any way. BodyJet™ liposuction is considered a non-invasive procedure because there is no cutting and no need for general anesthesia or IV sedation.

Q. What is liposculpture?

A. Liposculpture is a more refined, advanced form of liposuction that removes fat deposits through thin metal tubes, or cannulas, using tiny entry incisions. A special syringe or a vacuum suction pump is used to create a negative pressure to suck out fat from the areas to be improved. During the procedure the patient is under local anesthesia and awake. In many cases, an oral sedative is given to enhance patient comfort.

Q. There are so many different liposuction options.  What is the difference between Smartlipo™ and Traditional Liposuction.

A. SmartLipo™ is different from other body sculpting techniques because it uses a precise, powerful laser light beam that permanently melts fat and tightens the skin without the need for general anesthesia or IV sedation and their associated risks. Furthermore, there are no stitches, no unsightly scars, and little downtime. Results are natural yet dramatic. Because of the skin tightening effect, due to the extreme heat of the laser which provides skin retraction, SmartLipo™ is often combined with liposculpture and BodyJet™.

Q. How Does BodyJet™ Liposuction Compare to Traditional Liposuction?

A. There is a dramatic difference between the two.  Traditional liposuction involves use of general anesthesia and brute force to dislodge and remove unhealthy and unwanted fat cells.  The procedure causes trauma to the surrounding systems (blood vessels) and tissues while destroying the fat cells during removal. Recovery is longer and more painful. BodyJet™ liposuction has revolutionized the liposuction process. BodyJet™ liposuction uses no general anesthesia or IV sedation, causes no trauma to nearby cells and tissues, induces much less bruising, swelling and downtime, and allows Dr. Berger to achieve clearly superior results in less time. There is simply no comparison.

Q. Why is BodyJet™ Liposuction considered state-of-the-art technology?

A. BodyJet™ involves shorter treatment times mainly because the injected fluid is being simultaneously aspirated as it is infiltrated. This considerably reduces the procedure time and also allows for better body contouring.

Q. What Areas of the Body Can be Treated With BodyJet™ Liposuction?

A. All the same body areas can be treated as have been done with traditional liposuction methods, including the arms, abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, lower back and more. Men with gynecomastia (enlarged breasts) are very happy with the results achieved with BodyJet™ liposuction.

Q. How Soon Will I See Results After BodyJet™ Liposuction?

A. Typically in 1-2 weeks patients look like those who are 2-3 months out from their traditional liposuction procedure. Since BodyJet™ does not cause damage to connective tissue, the skin can retract and create smoother contours with fewer irregularities. BodyJet™ achieves the results in less time with a touch-up rate of less than 1%.

Q. How Does Fat Transfer with BodyJet™ Differ From Other Methods?

A.The fat transfer process with BodyJet™’s AquaShape LipoCollector achieves such superior results that the quality of the harvested fat is unequalled. Older methods required cells that could be removed to be treated before use. The BodyJet™ AquaShape LipoCollector safely removes greater amounts of fat cells without damaging them, so they can be drawn into a syringe and injected immediately. The survival rate of fat transfer with BodyJet™’s AquaShape LipoCollector exceeds 80% versus the survival rates of 50% or less with older methods.

Q. Why Is Healing and Recovery Time Shorter with BodyJet™ Liposuction?

A. The BodyJet™ procedure is less invasive because there is no trauma to surrounding tissues, fluid and drug load is minimal, less pressure is used, aspiration is immediate, and blood loss is imperceptible. BodyJet™ Liposuction is the gentle way to remove unhealthy body fat.

Q. If I add SmartLipo™ to another procedure, like BodyJet™ or liposculpture, is my recovery any different?

A. No. SmartLipo™ does not affect the recovery from other body contouring procedures in any way.

Q. What does SmartLipo™ feel like?

A. You will be given an oral medication to relax you during the procedure.  Dr. Berger insures all patients are comfortable and feel no pain. When the procedure is over, you will walk in and walk out. Though the skin is numb during the procedure, the SmartLipo™ laser feels pleasantly warm, with a mild heat sensation similar to that of strong sunlight on the skin. After the procedure most patients need nothing stronger than extra strength Tylenol.

A. Dr. Berger will personally conduct the consultation with the patient to decide whether the prospective patient is a candidate for the procedure. Once the consultation has been completed, the doctor takes an active role in answering any and all questions you might have about the procedure, protocols and recovery. Your comfort is our top priority, and seasoned professionals will assist in the experience both before and after the procedure is completed.

Q. Can I do liposuction if I live out-of-town?

A. Yes. Domestic and international patients are welcome. Several of our patients fly into Los Angeles for their procedure every week. After your procedure, you will be given all the medications and garments that you need for your recovery. Safety is our priority. Follow-up appointments are required and we will accommodate your travel schedule. Our office is in the heart of Beverly Hills (directions and map) and out-of-town patients often enjoy some shopping and celebrity watching around our office before or after their procedure. Q. How much does liposuction cost?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that can remove your stubborn fat cells in just one treatment session. Like any surgical procedure, your treatment will come with a surgeon’s fee, anesthesia fee, facility fee, and other expenses. Because liposuction can be used on many areas of the body at once, the exact cost of your procedure will depend on the extent of the stubborn fat you’re having removed and the size of the area. The cost of liposuction can range from $6,000 to $15,000. Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure, and therefore the cost is almost always paid out of pocket, not by insurance. The cost of your procedure and your payment options will be gone over during your consultation, so you will know exactly what to expect financially. Fortunately, liposuction is typically a one-time procedure, so you can save money by choosing it the first time and not needing a touch-up session in the future.

Q. How long do liposuction results last?

Liposuction involves the use of a cannula to break up and remove your stubborn fat cells that are resistant to diet and exercise. In some cases, a surgical procedure like liposuction is the only way to eliminate these pockets of stubborn fat and finally see results. Once removed, stubborn fat cannot grow back, therefore the results of your liposuction results can be very long lasting. There are several factors that can influence your results after liposuction. Although you won’t gain weight in the treated area, you can still gain weight in other untreated areas, distorting your results and overall body balance. Therefore, you should maintain a healthy weight after your liposuction procedure for long lasting results. You can do this by ensuring a healthy diet and regular exercise. You should also only opt for liposuction or other contouring procedure once you are within your ideal weight range to ensure successful, long-lasting results. Typically, patients only require once liposuction treatment session to see dramatic results and a second session is never needed. You can enjoy permanent contour improvements as long as you maintain your weight.
